WhatsApp, through MSG91

Setup needed

Bills, order updates and offers on WhatsApp.

Connect your WhatsApp Business number through MSG91 once. VASAH then sends the counter's bills, your website's order updates and your daily summary — and your customers' replies come back to one inbox.

Example of what customers see

What you get

What it does for your shop.

  • The bill

Sent to the customer's WhatsApp when a counter bill is saved with their mobile.

  • Order updates

Placed, shipped, out for delivery, delivered — for orders on your website.

  • Replies in your inbox

Customers' messages arrive in the back office, beside what they bought.

  • Offers

Campaigns go only to customers who agreed to offers.

  • Your daily summary

The day's bills, sales and dues on the owner's WhatsApp, at the time you choose.

Before you start

What to have ready.

The accounts and approvals to start first — Meta's checks can take some days.

Getting ready

  1. Create an MSG91 account at msg91.com with the shop's email and the owner's mobile, and finish its KYC.

  2. Choose the number customers will get messages from. It must not be on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app on any phone — take it off the app first.

  3. In MSG91, open WhatsApp and add that number. This is where Meta checks your business; it can take some days, so start early.

  4. In MSG91 → WhatsApp → Templates, create a template for each message and send it to Meta. Sign-in codes go in the Authentication category, offers in Marketing, everything else in Utility.

  5. SMS is optional. For it, register on a DLT portal first: your business, a sender ID of up to 11 letters, and the exact text of each SMS. WhatsApp needs no DLT.

  6. Check Settings → Business & GST → Contact: the Email must receive mail, because Meta and MSG91 write to it.

This lesson in the Academy: Get ready for WhatsApp: MSG91, Meta and DLT →
  • An MSG91 account with its KYC done
  • A WhatsApp Business number that is not on the WhatsApp app on any phone
  • Your business verified by Meta, the company behind WhatsApp
  • Message templates approved by Meta — one in the Authentication category for sign-in codes
  • For SMS only: DLT registration — your business, a sender ID and the exact text of each SMS
  • A shop email that really receives mail — Meta and MSG91 write to it

Switch it on

Switch it on, step by step.

Settings → Connections → WhatsApp & SMS, box by box, then a template for each message.

In the back officeSettings → Connections → WhatsApp & SMSWho can do it: owner, store manager
  1. Open Settings → Connections and pick “WhatsApp & SMS”. Set Mode to “MSG91 — live”.

  2. Copy your auth key from your MSG91 account and paste it in “Auth key”.

  3. Type the number in “WhatsApp number (with 91)”: 91 and the 10 digits. For SMS, also fill “SMS sender ID (DLT header)”.

  4. Press Save at the bottom. “Message templates” now lists what Meta has approved on your number.

  5. In “Message templates”, pick the approved template for each message — Sign-in code, Counter bill (sent automatically), Order placed, Order shipped. “Show all” lists the rest.

  6. For SMS: register each SMS text on DLT — “Sign-in code by SMS — the text to register with DLT” shows the sign-in one word for word. Then, in “Advanced — the raw template map”, add each approved id as "dltTeId" inside its message, e.g. "OTP": {"dltTeId": "…"}.

The message templates

What each message carries.

You write each template's words in MSG91 and send them to Meta. VASAH fills the numbered boxes — {{1}}, {{2}} and so on — in this order.

Test it

Check it really works.

Read what MSG91 and Meta say, then send yourself a real bill.

  1. Press “Test connection”. A good result starts “MSG91 accepted the auth key” and says what can be sent and which templates are mapped.

  2. Read each template in the result: “approved” is ready; “waiting for Meta's approval” cannot go yet; “rejected by Meta” needs a new template; “is not in MSG91” means the name or language does not match.

  3. At the counter, attach your own mobile with F3 to a small bill and save it. The bill should reach your WhatsApp. F3

  4. Back in Connections, press Refresh under “Recent messages”. Sent means MSG91 took it; delivered and read come from WhatsApp; simulated reached nobody.

When something goes wrong

What VASAH tells you, and what to do.

Each message VASAH shows, what it means and what to do.

  • Settings shows “Messages are only written to a log — nothing reaches customers”: Mode is still Simulated, or the auth key or the number is missing. Choose “MSG91 — live” and fill both.

  • “MSG91 did not accept the auth key”: copy the key again from your MSG91 account, paste it, Save and test again.

  • “WhatsApp template not mapped for ORDER_SHIPPED — add it under Settings → Connections → WhatsApp & SMS”: that message has no template yet. Pick one in Settings → Connections → Message templates.

  • A template shows “rejected by Meta” with a reason: make it again in MSG91 with the fix, wait for approval, then pick the new one.

  • “SMS needs a DLT sender ID — add it under Settings → Connections → WhatsApp & SMS”, or SMS never arrives: fill the sender ID and register the text exactly as VASAH shows it. A new trade name or code validity changes that text — register it again.

  • Settings shows “… message(s) could not be delivered”: open “Recent messages” — the red line under Result is the reason. A message is tried 5 times, then marked failed.

Good to know

What it does not do.

  • Meta approves every template before it can be sent; a message with no approved template does not go.
  • You can type freely to a customer only for 24 hours after their last message. After that, only an approved template can go.
  • Offers go only to customers who agreed to them, and campaigns wait between 9 pm and 9 am.
  • The number cannot also be on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app on a phone.

Connect it during your free 30 days.
