One-time codes on WhatsApp, or by SMS

Setup needed

Sign in with a one-time code.

Shoppers sign in to your website, and staff to the counter, with a 6-digit code sent to their mobile — on WhatsApp first, and by SMS for people not on WhatsApp.

What you get

What it does for your shop.

  • WhatsApp first

A code goes on WhatsApp once an approved Authentication template is mapped — no DLT needed.

  • SMS for the rest

With DLT done, people not on WhatsApp get the code by SMS.

  • A copy-code button

On WhatsApp the code is in the text and on a copy-code button.

  • Guests still order

Until a code can be sent, shoppers order with just their name, mobile number and address.

Before you start

What to have ready.

WhatsApp first, SMS for the rest — and guests can order meanwhile.

Getting ready

  1. A code goes on WhatsApp first. That needs MSG91 live, your WhatsApp number and an approved Authentication template — no DLT.

  2. SMS carries it to people not on WhatsApp. That needs the sender ID and VASAH's sign-in text registered on DLT word for word.

  3. Until one works, keep “Let shoppers order with just their name, mobile number and address” ticked (Online store → Pages & banners → Shipping & COD), so nobody is turned away.

  4. A code works for 10 minutes. The owner can change that in Settings → Sign-in & security → “A sign-in code works for”.

  • WhatsApp through MSG91 live (course: WhatsApp and SMS)
  • An approved WhatsApp template in the Authentication category
  • For SMS: the sign-in text registered on DLT, its template id and your sender ID
  • A phone to receive the code

Switch it on

Switch it on, step by step.

Map the Sign-in code template; for SMS, add the DLT template id.

In the back officeSettings → Connections → WhatsApp & SMS → Message templatesWho can do it: owner, store manager
  1. Open Settings → Connections → WhatsApp & SMS and go to “Message templates”.

  2. On the “Sign-in code” row, pick your approved Authentication template. VASAH puts the code in the text and on the copy-code button.

  3. For SMS: open “Sign-in code by SMS — the text to register with DLT” and register exactly that text. When DLT approves it, fill the sender ID and, in “Advanced — the raw template map”, put its id inside the OTP entry: "OTP": {"dltTeId": "…"}.

  4. Save. The Connections card on the Settings home now says the sign-in codes go on WhatsApp (or SMS).

Test it

Check it really works.

Sign in on your website with a code, then at the counter.

  1. On a phone, open your website and tap Sign in. The button reads “Send code on WhatsApp” (or “Send code by SMS”).

  2. Type your mobile and send. The 6-digit code arrives; type it and you are signed in.

  3. At the counter's sign-in, choose “Mobile OTP”, type a staff mobile and press “Send OTP”; sign in with the code.

When something goes wrong

What VASAH tells you, and what to do.

No channel yet, staff told to use the password, DLT text mismatch.

  • The website shows “Order with us directly” instead of a mobile box: nothing can carry a code yet. Map the Sign-in code template (or finish DLT); guests can still order meanwhile.

  • At the counter: “Sign-in by OTP needs SMS or WhatsApp, and neither is connected yet. Sign in with your password.” Finish the WhatsApp course; staff use passwords until then.

  • “SMS is connected, but neither the OTP's DLT template ID nor a WhatsApp OTP template is in the template map yet.”: map the WhatsApp template, or add the DLT template id under OTP.

  • Codes by SMS never arrive: the text on DLT is not exactly VASAH's. A new trade name or code validity changes the text — register it again.

  • “Too many OTP requests. Please wait 15 minutes.”: one number can ask for 5 codes in 15 minutes. Wait, then try once.

Good to know

What it does not do.

  • SMS needs DLT: your sender ID, and VASAH's sign-in text registered word for word. A new trade name or code validity changes that text.
  • A code works for 10 minutes unless the owner changes it.
  • One number can ask for 5 codes in 15 minutes.
